What is adsense ?

google defines its AdSense program as a fast and easy way for website publishers of all sizes to display relevant Google ads on their website's content pages and earn money"

Let's have an in depth look at each important word in this definition:
Fast

To enable AdSense ads, you just need to insert a few lines on your pages' HTML code. This code is generated via a user friendly interface and no technical knowledge is needed to achieve this task. Generating the AdSense code won't take you more than a minute once you have an AdSense account .

Easy
AdSense is different from other advertising programs that require a day to day management (selecting advertisers, negotiating payments, managing display of banners...). In fact, AdSense is highly automated and once it is set up - the code is inserted - you have nothing else to do.
Website publishers of all sizes

This sentence refers to websites and blogs. This is important because some other advertising programs won't accept you as a publisher unless you have a website (not a blog) and a minimum size very few personal websites will ever reach (500.000 monthly pages views for example).

Moreover, AdSense isn't only suitable for blogs and small personal websites, it has been designed with small size publishers in mind which I find is a very good choice because this segment had no real alternative.
Relevant ads
This is undoubtedly the one feature that makes AdSense stand out of other advertising programs. AdSense relies on the Google search technology to "understand" what your pages are about and accordingly display ads that can be of interest to people who are reading them. As you might know, targetting is a key concept in successful advertising and Google has come up with a solution that makes your advertising often (if not always) very well targeted.
Earn money

Now that you have understood that AdSense is a great advertising program, why would you give Google space on your pages to display its ads? The answer is obvious : Google pays you every time someone CLICK on one of the ads you show. This is why AdSense is called a "Pay Per click" program. If you haven't implemented AdSense on your website / blog yet, I can imagine how excited you are about this program ! And you are absolutely right. AdSense will change the way you see the web. Let's see how you can start making money with adsense right now.
